Celebrating Ireland in Story and Song Returning to the Woonsocket Harris Public Library
Celebrating Ireland is an all Irish program which embraces Irish history and culture in Story and Song. With her love of the music and stories of Ireland, fiddler and harpist Mary King keeps the Celebrating Ireland program going year after year. Mary will teach a jig before the program to all interested, & area stepdancers are welcome to join the program. She is joined by Tom Maquire, an Irish playwright, bodhran player and whisky tenor whose fervor for all things Celtic reaches well into the Dark Ages. His stories tell of illegal immigration, the plight of tinkers, the peace talks in Northern Ireland and the tenderly romantic. Also performing is Phil Edmonds, a native of Killaloe, Country Clare, Ireland, who learned to play tin whistle in a place where he says: “the backyard was the fields.” Along with his tin whistle, Phil plays button accordion with great warmth and spirit. The Celtic soul is alive and well in the stories and songs you will hear, and your ears and eyes.
